East Meets West Yoga Center

Denyse LeFever

DenyseDenyse first discovered Yoga as a teen to alleviate stress and anxiety associated with taking standardized tests. She found both the gentle Hatha based practice and meditation to be helpful in easing her into adulthood. As she embarked on her over 30-year career in global business, she periodically returned to Yoga to maintain a sense of balance.

Approaching her senior years, Denyse decided to take her casual interest in Yoga to a more professional in-depth study and focus. Specifically she focused on some of her personal areas of concern – Stress Reduction, Healthy Aging and coping with lifestyle dis-eases. She began teaching part time in 2011. Denyse has received several certifications and has completed over 1000 hours of yoga teacher training.

At East Meets West, Denyse has taught group classes to include – Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga and Chillaxation, a restorative yoga practice to reduce stress. Denyse is known for combining her love of lavender with yoga to ease stress. Denyse has offered Yoga and Lavender workshops in VA, PA and NJ.

Yoga Therapy Sessions with Denyse

Yoga views the individual as a whole to include body, breath, emotions, intellect and spirit. Denyse works with you to help you identify appropriate practices for your needs. Each session is structured according to the intention the student identifies. The yoga therapy sessions use individualized yogic practices to help each individual move toward achieving their specific wellness goal or objective. A typical session will last up to an hour and may include breath work, meditation, relaxation techniques, discussions, and/or a posture practice based on what goals the student sets. Normally several sessions work best toward achieving objectives. Based on our session together, there will usually be some practice assigned for homework between sessions.

In addition to Yoga Alliance 200 and 500 Hour certifications, Denyse has received additional training in the following areas – Integrative Yoga Therapy, Relax and Renew, Restorative Teacher Certification, Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors conducted at Duke University Integrative Medicine, and Yoga of the Heart Certification for Cardiac and Cancer. Currently Denyse is enrolled in a 3-year Comprehensive Yoga Therapy Training program scheduled to complete in 2017. As part of this training, Denyse designed a program focused on applying Yogic Principals to Metabolic Syndrome.
